Lesvos: Fundraising for Resident Volunteers & a Heatwave

This month, a lot of our Operations team has been working on getting information out about the fundraising program for the Resident Volunteers.

We’ve been working on a schedule of extra activities to do with our resident teams throughout the week, like trash pick-up outside of camp, and we’ve heard kind feedback from it. With extremely high temperatures, and fires in surrounding areas, we’ve been focusing our energy where it’s needed most.

As residents also feel the heat exhaustion, we’ve been holding events in the evenings when things cool down, like our live-streamed football matches at the Skills Area. In previous years, heaters have unfortunately gotten misplaced or taken with residents to the mainland, so this year we’ve made a team effort to gather, clean, and test around 300 heaters for next winter.

All summer, there is no public school for the children inside camp, and many miss having educational opportunities throughout those months, so we have begun looking into what activities we could arrange to assist in this. As stated before, without funds for our operations, like the Resident Volunteer program, we are needing to cut some existing services very soon.
