Lesvos: Continuing Distributions and Summer Education Changes

The camp numbers recently dipped to an all time low: 823 people. We don't believe this will be a permanent reality, but it has been a quiet month. In addition to low overall numbers, camp turnover has been extremely fast, with people staying in camp for a few months, or much less.

This has presented a lot of challenges for all areas, including our Resident Volunteers and Translator programs, Men’s and Women’s Engagement Centers and Foodlines. We continue to do many door-to-door distributions. In the last month this includes: pillows, towels and soap, sunglasses for adults, shower gel, wipes and paper towels. We’ve found the time to make building improvements in our Men's Community Centre, including insulating the extension.

As a result of decisions made by the Ministry of Education and camp management, a large reconstruction of the education program has taken place, and our Education team is responding with amazing wisdom, grace and flexibility. We are also very thankful for the €31,764 fundraised out of the €70,000 needed for the Resident Volunteer 2024 Campaign
